The coaches of Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors 'A' teams insisted there was plenty to take from this afternoon's behind-closed-doors match at Scotstoun.

While the visitors were victorious 29-12, Shade Munro said it was about more than just the result for a young Warriors side.

“We get a huge amount from that," he said.

"Those sorts of games, and that sort of level of team Edinburgh had there, is a really good learning curve.

“For someone like Dan Halkon, who was calling the line-outs there, that is great for an 18-year-old. He made mistakes and he can see the consequences of not doing it right,

“Ally Miller and Jack Mann would have been playing, but Jack hurt his back during the week and Ally’s wife gave birth, so they both dropped out last minute, which meant we didn’t really have back-five cover, and that added to the pressure for Dan, and it was a really good experience.

“He played 80 minutes in the second-row, in the second-row with James Pow from Stirling County, and he loved it as well, so it is great to have this outlet for ambitious club players aspiring to play at that next level.

“And that is the same right across the board for all the young fellas like that.

"They can all play, they can all train really hard, but they need to play at this level to learn how important some aspects of the game are, and why they need to work to get better, which doesn’t always get exposed at club level."

While Munro's Edinburgh counterpart Rob Chrystie was able to call upon three full Scotland internationals, he felt there was plenty for his young players to take from the game.

“I think the young guys got a lot out of it," he said.

"If you look at Ollie Blyth-Lafferty going up against someone like Allan Dell, that’s excellent for him, and likewise young Richie Simpson playing against Ben Healy, so that crossover between senior guys and guys starting out is excellent.

"The senior squads will get rotated throughout the season, so it is important that everyone is ready to take their chance.”

He also praised Ben Healy, who has been in the 'A' team for the past couple of weeks after being dropped by Sean Everitt following the URC defeat to the Lions.

“Ben has played really well the last couple of weeks," Chrystie said.

"The way he has led and the way he has played, has been really impressive. We’ve got competition in that position that position in Edinburgh now, which is great, but he’s making sure he’s ready to take his opportunity when it comes around again, because it will come."
