Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu has signed a new contract with Glasgow Warriors despite interest from clubs in England and France.

The 27-year-old had been linked with a move to the Gallagher Premiership, with Harlequins and Bath both reportedly interested in the 28-times capped centre.

French giants Stade Francais were also reported to be interested in securing the services of Tuipulotu, who was named Scotland captain for the Autumn Nations Series.

After Glasgow's loss to the Sharks, Tuipulotu admitted he was considering his future at club level, having joined the Warriors in 2021 from Yamaha Jubilo in Japan.

He said: "I'm desperate to win and I really feel like Glasgow at the moment is a winning team and it's fun to play rugby for Glasgow at the moment.

“In terms of the future after that. There's not much I can say about it but all I can say is that I'm happy in Scotland, and I'm happy in Glasgow.”

But now Tuipulotu, who has made 60 appearances for Glasgow to date, has committed his future to the club until the summer of 2028 after signing a new three-year deal.

He admitted to a sense of relief that his long-term future was now sorted.

“My biggest emotion is that I’m relieved to be staying," he said.

Tuipulotu added: “Whenever I get into contract negotiations, there’s so much noise around, so I’m delighted to be able to put pen to paper.

"I’m really happy in Glasgow and in Scotland, and there are things that I want to achieve – and need to achieve – in the next three years here that I can’t wait to get stuck into.

“I just want to keep driving forward with this group. It’s a really settled group with a lot of cohesion, and I thought that’s shone through in the last couple of seasons.

"We’re all hungry for more, and I’m keen to do my part in bringing more silverware back to Scotstoun.

“I want to say a huge thank you, not only to the coaches and my team-mates, but also to the Warrior Nation – they’ve always believed in me ever since I arrived at Scotstoun, and I promise that I’ll keep giving my all for this club and for Scotland.”

Tuipulotu has been an key part of the Glasgow side under Franco Smith, and the Warriors head coach was similarly pleased to have his star centre's future determined.

“He has grown into an important leader for us and for Scotland, and routinely drives standards across all elements of our squad.

“He is someone who is fully bought into what we are building at Scotstoun, and we look forward to continuing to work together over the coming seasons.”
