Zander Fagerson is a doubt to face Fiji in Scotland's Autumn Nations Series opener at Murrayfield on Saturday.

The prop was picked to start at tighthead when Gregor Townsend named his team on Thursday, but missed Friday morning's captain's run due to "personal reasons."

If the British and Irish Lion is forced to drop out, Edinburgh prop D'Arcy Rae would be promoted from the bench to make his first international start, five years on from his only cap to date.

Uncapped Glasgow prop Fin Richardson, who is yet to play for the Warriors first team following his summer move from Exeter Chiefs, would be added to the bench.

When Townsend named his team on Thursday, he suggested the depth at tighthead was stronger now than it has been in the recent past.

However, with Elliot Millar Mills and Will Hurd both unavailable, he may be forced to throw Richardson in.

Townsend said: "Zander's been our number one tighthead for a few years now and it is a crucial position, but I probably have less sleepless nights now than I did two or three years ago when WP Nel was coming towards the end of his retirement and Simon Berghan was also retiring.

"We've been really impressed with how Elliot Miller-Mills has played for Northampton how he's continued that form this year, played well for us.

"Will Hurd was someone who was originally in our Six Nations squad, got capped in the summer. He's part of a Leicester pack that are going really well at set-piece time, in particular at scrum."

"And D'Arcy [Rae], I'm so pleased for D'Arcy to win his second cap. He's been on form this year.

"When the scrum's gone well with Edinburgh, D'Arcy's been at the heart of that."
