Saracens have provided an update on Scotland forward Andy Onyeama-Christie, who suffered a serious ankle injury at the weekend.

Onyeama-Christie was stretchered off early in Sarries' defeat to Harlequins at The Stoop after getting his lower leg caught in a tackle.

Some of his team-mates were visibly in distress after the incident, which saw play stopped for several minutes while the eight-times capped Scotland back-row was treated.

Onyeama-Christie shared a video from his TikTok account that showed he was able to watch some of the match while being transferred to hospital.

Post-match, Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall described the injury as "horrendous" and now the club has provided a further update.

Onyeama-Christie will have surgery on Monday, but there is no timeframe at this stage for his return.

McCall said: “After he has surgery on Monday we’ll know more about his recovery time, but the overwhelming support from across the game has certainly lifted his spirits.”

He also praised the 25-year-old's resilience in the face of another stint on the sidelines. The back-row forward missed the end of last season after breaking his arm.

McCall added: “He’s one of those characters that once the surgery is done, he’ll be fully focused on getting back on to the pitch, and like he’s done from his broken arms I’m sure he’ll be able to return better than ever."
