Edinburgh are hopeful of having Emiliano Boffelli back for their United Rugby Championship trip to Cardiff on Saturday, but it has been confirmed Darcy Graham will miss the rest of the season.
Back spasms have kept Argentina fullback Boffelli out of the last five matches, but should return for the trip to the Welsh capital this weekend.
Head coach Sean Everitt said: “We’re hoping that Boff is going to get through today well and we’ll know that for certain on Wednesday morning.
“It’s just how he reacts to the training today. If he does come through well he’ll certainly be considered for selection on the weekend.”
Edinburgh’s depth in the back three has been tested in recent weeks, with Matt Currie and Chris Dean having to fill in on the wing.
There would have been considerable concern among Edinburgh supporters on Saturday night when Duhan van der Merwe was removed, but Everitt confirmed the Scotland international is available again this week.
He said: “Duhan took a knock to his knee. It’s a contusion, so it’s a soft-tissue injury, and he’ll be available for selection on Saturday.”
And while Saturday’s trip to Cardiff will come too soon for Paterson, who made a stunning Scotland debut against France in the Six Nations, Everitt hopes to have him back soon.

Paterson has been absent for the past six weeks with a stress fracture in his foot.
Everitt added: “I think Harry will return to play post the break next week.”
However, the Edinburgh boss confirmed Darcy Graham won’t play again this season.
Graham suffered a groin injury while training with Edinburgh in a bid to be fit for the Six Nations, and Everitt said previously he might make the play-offs should the club qualify.
However, he confirmed the Hawick-born winger will now miss the rest of the campaign.
