While seven players from the senior Scotland side that beat Portugal have dropped down to the 'A' team that will face Chile on Saturday, Pete Horne has ventured outside the national team set-up to bolster his squad - particularly in one position.

Senior squad hookers Ewan Ashman, Dylan Richardson, Paddy Harrison and Johnny Matthews have all been retained by Gregor Townsend, with Glasgow's Gregor Hiddleston selected to start for the 'A' team at Hive Stadium.

His Edinburgh counterpart Harri Morris, who has made just two appearances for the club since his move from the back-row to hooker, is among the replacements.

And for Hiddleston, who has only made 14 appearances for the Warriors, it is the next step in a journey he hopes propels him into becoming the best in the world.

"We're really excited about Gregor," Scotland 'A' head coach Horne said.

"I think Franco [Smith, Glasgow Warriors head coach] rates him really highly.

"He's held him in really high regard through Glasgow.

"I spent a bit of time with him, obviously, in Glasgow in the last couple of years.

"He is desperate to do anything it takes to get better and better and better. I've got no doubt he'll have a big game this weekend. He will fly into Saturday."

Morris, meanwhile, made his Edinburgh debut in 2021 as an all-action back-row player, before following in the footsteps of ex-Scotland captain Stuart McInally and moving into the middle of the front row.

After a successful loan spell at Doncaster last year, Morris returned to Edinburgh over the summer and appeared from the bench in October's win over Stormers.

"He's a cracking kid, just one of the toughest guys I've ever met," the Scotland 'A' coach said.

"He's honestly hard as nails. Today we were doing a session and I was like 'right, let's just pull the level back a little bit'

"A lot of the guys played on Saturday and bless anyone that runs near him just ends up getting twatted. He's only got one gear.

"He's obviously not had too many opportunities, but he was brilliant in a couple of Edinburgh games, the physicality he brings is just next level.

"He's someone that we, again, we see having a test future and it'll be interesting to see how he steps up this weekend."
