Rory Darge has no concerns over his workload with Scotland’s Autumn internationals on the horizon after returning from South Africa with the Glasgow Warriors.

The 24-year-old was named in Gregor Towsend’s squad on Wednesday but he was overlooked for the captaincy with Warriors teammate Sione Tuipulotu earning that honour.

Darge and Finn Russell were named co-captains ahead of the Six Nations in February but Tuipulotu has leapfrogged them in the leadership hierarchy.

Darge insisted he hadn’t spoken to Townsend about the captaincy when speaking to the media before the Scotland squad announcement but he’s relishing the upcoming internationals.

Scotland host Fiji five days after Darge returns from two weeks in South Africa with Glasgow but Darge's sole focus is on facing the Stormers on Saturday.

“So, you know, spending as much time as we can on film and footage, as well as getting ahead in the books, that's kind of what helps prepare you for the change of systems and stuff.

“It's tough when we're going straight into the international stuff just because we've got massive games with our club. So you can't really pay too much attention. You have to stick to the task.

"And that's the way I've been my whole career. That's the way I think I'll always be is just taking things week by week. You know, it's hard to not sort of have it in the back of your mind. But when you've got as much on your plate as we've got with Stormers this week, then that makes it a bit easier.”

It’s been a busy year already for Darge as he flew out on Scotland’s summer tour after winning the URC with Glasgow but he was afforded enough time to rest.

But after that, any boys that toured got a good, solid, chunky time off, completely off, not in the building for five weeks.

“So, you know, that was important to get recharged. And most coaches now, but certainly the coaches at Glasgow and in Scotland, are pretty good with managing bodies, managing minutes.”

The Scotland international isn’t the only member of the Darge family making waves in the sporting world with his younger brother Arron starring for Cove Rangers.

The 21-year-old progressed through Hearts’ academy but he’s now pushing for promotion with the Aberdeenshire side and the Warriors flanker has been cheering on from the stands.

“Not the ones in Cove, I have to admit, that's a wee bit far away, but the ones that are around the central belt I get to - its great to go and see him when I can. I have managed when we get Friday night games or if I've got a weekend off, it's quite enjoyable to go watch.”

"My folks go, my grandparents will often go, so it's just a nice thing to be able to do. I know that it's tough for me and it's even tougher for him to get to any of my games. But any chance he does, he does put the effort in. So it is nice.
