Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt admitted he would “love” Scotland scrum-half Ali Price to stay at the club amid reports he is off to the Top 14.

Reports in France suggested Price, a Test starter for the British and Irish Lions in 2021, could be off to Montpellier at the end of the season.

“We would love Ali to stay at the club,” Everitt said after naming his team to face Benetton tomorrow.

“I've had numerous conversations with him. I've got a good relationship with Ali and we're open and honest.”

Keeping their star players as they approach the end of their contracts will be a challenge for both Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors given Scottish Rugby’s financial position.

"We're having positive conversations,” Everitt continued.

“It's early in the recruitment process. Obviously, we would like to keep him as a British and Irish Lion.

“He's a very experienced player who brings a lot of leadership to the group. And on top of that, he's in good form at the moment.”

The Edinburgh head coach did not rule out a move for Scottish-qualified Cardiff prop Rhys Litterick.

And while he did not name Litterick specifically, Everitt said they are in discussions with players at the moment.

“The recruitment process is an ongoing one for all clubs at this time of the year,” the Edinburgh boss said.

“We are having talks with players and we're having talks with our own players as well.

"We're not going to delve too much into that at this stage.”
