Round 5 saw Glasgow and Edinburgh both claim try bonus points with the final play of their matches.

While it was only the capital club who secured a win, both teams remain on track for a solid outcome from the opening block of URC fixtures.

Here are some of the best stats from the weekend’s action.

Glasgow Warriors

The Warriors have collected match points in 33 of their last 34 URC fixtures.

  • Win + try bonus point – 18
  • Win, no bonus point – 8
  • Loss + try BP and losing bonus point – 2
  • Loss + try bonus point – 3
  • Loss + losing bonus point – 2
  • Loss, no bonus point – 1

It is just the sixth time in the club’s history that they have collected both bonus points in the same game.

  • Bath (A), Heineken Cup 2008/09
  • Munster (A), PRO14 2018/19
  • Ulster (A), URC 2021/22
  • Cardiff (A), URC 2021/22
  • Bulls (A), URC 2023/24
  • Sharks (A), URC 2024/25

Try 1: George Horne

This was his 80th try involvement for Glasgow (46 tries and 34 assists) – one for every 74 minutes he has played for the club.

The Warriors had only lost one of the previous 12 matches that he had scored in.

Try 2: George Horne

He is only one score behind Tommy Seymour (48), with six more after that to match DTH van der Merwe (54), Glasgow’s current record try scorer.

Try 3: Rory Darge

His tenth career try for the Warriors and Scotland. At club level, he has finally matched his tally of five in Test matches.

Four of his five tries for Glasgow have been scored away from home.

Try 4: Johnny Matthews

  • First try in South Africa.
  • Fifth time he has scored with the clock beyond 80 minutes.
  • Sixth time scoring the bonus point try.
  • Twelfth different team he has scored against in the URC (he needs Bulls, Cardiff and Lions to complete the set).
  • Fifteenth try he has scored from the subs bench (27 as a starter).

Edinburgh

Edinburgh have collected the same number of try bonus points (three) and losing bonus points (two) in their five matches so far this season as they did in the entirety of the 2023/24 campaign.

The capital club have managed back-to-back BP wins in the URC for the first time since rounds five and six of the 2022/23 season.

Ali Price was named Player of the Match for the first time at club level since 18th January 2020 (Sale v Glasgow).

Try 1: Duhan van der Merwe

Edinburgh have a win percentage of 84% in matches he has scored in.

Try 2: Pierre Schoeman

The 13th prop try of 2024 for Edinburgh. By way of comparison, Glasgow’s big men have bagged two tries so far during this calendar year.

He has scored ten times in the last 12 months, seven for Edinburgh and three for Scotland.

Try 3: Darcy Graham

He notched his 60th top level try (Edinburgh – 36, Scotland – 24) and is also now alongside Blair Kinghorn on his club’s top try scorers’ list.

Try 4: Ewan Ashman

This is the second time this season that Edinburgh have collected a try bonus point with the last play of the game (also Leinster).

Forwards are outscoring backs by 12 tries to six so far during the current campaign.

This was the 13th try the club have scored in the second halves of their matches this season (versus five in the first halves).

Combining those two stats, Duhan van der Merwe’s first against Leinster is the only try scored by an Edinburgh back in the opening 40 minutes of any of their five games so far in 2024/25.
