Adam Hastings will win his first cap since the autumn of 2022 against USA tonight, and the Glasgow-bound fly-half said he can't wait to pull on the thistle again.

Hastings won the last of his 27 caps in an Autumn Nations Series win over Fiji at Murrayfield in November 2022.

A torrid run of injuries have kept him out of national team action since - with the fly-half missing the opportunity to play at last year's Rugby World Cup.

But the 27-year-old, who will rejoin Glasgow Warriors from Gloucester after the tour, has been handed the keys to number 10 for the match with USA Washington DC tonight.

He is relishing the opportunity to be back involved.

Hastings said: "It has been a while so I was thinking [about] when this day might come again.

"Fortunately I am in the squad for Friday and excited to rip in."

While Gregor Townsend has made 15 changes from the win over Canada last Saturday, Hastings said he's looking forward to playing alongside some of his soon-to-be Glasgow colleagues.

He'll partner George Horne at half-back, while co-captain Sione Tuipulotu and Huw Jones form the midfield partnership and Warriors duo Kyle Rowe and Kyle Steyn are among the back three.

Hastings added: "I've played with a lot of the boys already and I'm joining up with a lot of my future team-mates back at Glasgow so I'm looking forward to it."

The fly-half, son of Scotland legend Gavin and the nephew of Scott, revealed how preparation has been going for the match, which kicks off at 11.30pm (UK time) and is live on TNT Sports.

"We trained really hard in Ottawa," he said.

"I wasn't in the squad [to play Canada] so it was nice to just reintroduce myself to things. We had a good time there, but Washington has been unbelievable.

"The city is cool - I think I could live here. I think a few of the boys feel the same."

The temperature at kick-off is expected to be around 25 degrees, but has been well above that for much of the week.

"It is a bit too hot for my liking, but hopefully it won't be too bad on Friday night," Hastings added.
