Five players have left the Scotland squad as Gregor Townsend's team head to South America for the second leg of the summer tour.

Late call-up Ross McCann, who made his international debut in the win over Canada, is one of the quintet who is returning home,

Fly-half Ross Thompson, a starter in the win over Canada and a replacement in the weekend win over USA, is also returning home. Thompson will move from Glasgow Warriors to Edinburgh Rugby this summer.

And his soon-to-be Edinburgh team-mate Glen Young has also left the group after picking up a pectoral injury.

Northampton Saints duo Robbie Smith and Elliot Millar Mills are also returning home. Neither of them would be available for the tour finale against Uruguay with the match outside of World Rugby's international window.

Meanwhile, new Glasgow signing Fin Richardson, his Warriors colleague Ben Afshar and Edinburgh lock Rob Carmichael are joining the squad as 'development players'.

Townsend has said previously the trio could be considered for selection, but that is likely to be only in the event of injuries.
