IDA A. JOHNSON (nee BOTT)

IDA A. JOHNSON (nee BOTT) Dearly loved matriarch (98 years young) passed away peacefully at home on August 25th, 2020, with her Sons Ian and Ben nearby, who along with their Wives Sally and Jan, six Grandchildren, six Great Grandchildren and her Sister Jean are mourning her loss while celebrating her zest for life. Born at Bodenham, Leominster, Ida grew up on Upper Hill Farm Breinton, attended Hereford High School for Girls and played senior hockey for Herefordshire Ladies. Enlisted in the WRNS (1941) and within a month was promoted to Leading Driver. While serving at Tilbury & Chatham Docks met Ben Johnson R.N. Married at Breinton in December 1944, before Ben was posted as a COA to HMS Belfast (Far East Fleet). After leaving the Navy, work took the family to Tewkesbury and then Stafford where Ida joined the WRVS, later becoming Borough Organiser. In 1968 she joined Staffordshire C.C. as a Welfare Officer working mainly with the elderly and folks with physical disabilities, retiring in 1986 as Senior Aids & Adaptations Officer. She enjoyed local outings and holidays throughout the UK and Europe, was in Iran when the 1978 revolution started, later visiting New Zealand and Canada. In 1993, a few years after her husband died, Ida moved to Ewyas Harold to be nearer her extended family and spent 27 years back in the county she was so fond of. Funeral will be at Hereford Crematorium on Friday, September 11th at 15.45 (30 limit due to Covid regulations).
