So sorry to hear this. Many a good time spent with Tom and the boys from Whittalls over the road. What a character. Miss you Des.

So sad to read this, my condolences to the family.
I followed Des from the Lichfield vaults to the Saracens, happy times.

A very lovely tolerant kind and super man, I remember opening the door to him 'after hours' when he was still a serving copper when I was a child (ULU bar) I became friends with his daughter Bernie after he took the Lichfield Vaults with his first wife ( also a very lovely soul) then later when he took on the Saracens head and I was old enough to use a pub, the 'Sags' was my pub full of characters, rogues and ruffians Des handled it all like an absolute pro, his gentle calm cool manner tamed all, make no mistake if it came to he was no slouch and very capable of handling any person who overstepped the mark. If it came to anything like that the whole pub was right behind him backing him up to the hilt. A fine kind man much respected and loved. What a guy! RIP Des x
