I was fortunate to spend a whole school year at John Beddoes comprehensive School in 1971-1972, and even more fortunate to have the opportunity to learn my future job with Mary, then Head of Department. She taught me rigour, open-mindedness and dedication. For many years, have I been grateful to that formidable lady.

So sorry to hear the news about Mary. She was a lovely friend and neighbour to our mum, Gill, and often bought over cakes and biscuits whenever she had been baking despite being well into her eighties. Best wishes from the family of Gill Duberley
