Vern Cotter Names His Final Scotland Team For Italian Job

The outgoing Head Coach has named his last ever squad for Scotland’s final game of the RBS Six Nations Against Italy and it includes 2 changes for the team humbled by England.

In his swansong game the man known as Stern Vern, who has led Scotland to their highest ever World Rugby Ranking, will be hoping to bow out by giving Scotland their best ever Six Nations finish.

Despite a multitude of injuries sustained in the heavy loss to England, only replacement Mark Bennett has been ruled out. His place on the bench is taken by on-form Gloucester centre Matt Scott, whose recall to the squad will delight the many fans who have been calling for his inclusion.

The other change comes at hooker where Fraser Brown is replaced by cap centurion Ross Ford.

  1. Scotland are in the up thanks to the coaching team and grit and determination of the players. We need to put the game against England out of our heads and focus on the bigger picture. This has been an awesome six nations for us, let’s not forget we are now 5th in the world, 5th! We have nothing to be ashamed of and should go out and play with the passion we have in the other games. It will be a good win for Scotland to end a fantastic tournament. Cmon Scotland #asone

  3. Looks like Fraser Brown is paying for his little lapse last week at the begining of the game. Was probably hyped up but it was a stupid move to get sin binned in the first two minutes of an important game like that. It set the tone for the rest of the game as we got ruffled quickly just after it

  7. I think Scotland have been superb this season. But fans should not get carried away. We have 2 pro teams Wales and Ireland have 4 and England have a massive 24 .So this is as good as its gets.We have great players but sadly not enough of them Dougie Forbes

  9. Well, it’s going to be an interesting review after this 6N, and I hope journalists will ask some interesting questions. Vern has done a really good job to get us to this stage, and in essence, it’s up to the players where they want to finish – 5th or 2nd. It’s been a fascinating 6N from a blue perspective, with 2 excellent wins, one very physical near-win (France), and a total disaster against England. For a long time, i think Scotland’s problems have been mental – generations of players now have had the skills but not the belief to dominate. This is not the case now. However, questions still need to be asked over what the hell happened v England. Weight of expectation, or the longer-term mental collapse so often seen there. History needs to be examined. Gregor was 10 when we last won there.

  13. Saturday is history, build on the progress they have made. 2 wins in the pot, 1 more to go. A few years back , who would ever have thought we’d be 5th in the world!!!! I’m loving it . Come on Scotland

  15. Depends on the referee at the time. I said to my brother b4 the game even started that the ref would influence the game. Why wasnt the intended high tackle dealt with?? Intent is as good as doing.

  17. England do have an impressive side at the moment, Scotland, despite having a heavily injured side, still scored 3 converted tries. I think the boys did pretty good all things considered.

  19. Looks a good pick, the team has done well this year and needs supporting. The England thing is over and lets be fair they have a hell of a big pool of players more than anyone else in the tournament.

  21. Taking nothing away from a very good England performance, but the match was over as a contest in the first quarter and showed a soft underbelly. The SRU will be happy with being ranked 5th and two wins so far… plus they won’t have upset the apple cart with their imperial masters.
